How to Determine if Your Child is Ready for Sports Outside of FWB Preschool
Kid’s sports are a great way to encourage healthy physical activity, socialization, and motor skill growth outside of the preschool setting. When you get to watch your little one playing with others their own age out on the field or court in FWB, it fills your heart with cheer. Simply watching your child enjoy themselves is enough to complete your day.
Although there are several benefits of kid’s sports, not all children are ready to play at the same age. How will you know if your child’s ready for children’s sports?
Here is our full guide on understanding when your child’s ready to play sports.
They Have the Basic Skills
Most children’s sports will require basic skills such as catching, kicking, throwing, balance, running, and an attention span. Once your little one begins to develop most of these skills, they’ll be ready to play sports for young children. Most children will learn these skills between the ages of 3 and 5.
Do keep in mind, however, even though your child might have already developed these skills, it doesn’t mean they’re ready to get out there and play. There are some other factors to consider as well, such as their social skills and if they’re shy or not.
They’re Interested in the Sport
The next thing to keep in mind is their interest in the sport. Not all children enjoy playing a sport on a team. Your child may find more interest in other physical activities, such as riding bikes around FWB or running with the family dog in the backyard, which is okay as well.
Also, some children don’t do well in social settings or are shyer than others.
Social skills can be learned by registering your small child for toddler childcare or preschool. This gives them the opportunity to begin developing their social skills. Once they do so and they see other children their age playing, they may start to grow an interest in the sport as well.
Other Children Their Age in the FWB Area
Are there other children their age playing the sport? This could be a good indication that your child is at the right age to play. Some sports will require a child to be a certain age to register.
This helps keep all of the children on the team around the same age. If you can find a sport that one of their friends is already playing, then this might help encourage them to play as well. They’ll see their friend playing and having a great time, and they’ll want to join in too.
